CITY VIEWS

Historic Canterbury is a city of mainly low rise buildings, dominated by the central bulk of the Cathedral, but animated by taller historic 'punctuation marks' – parish church towers, the Dane John Mound, Westgate Towers etc. Four story buildings were comparatively rare until the building of the Whitefriars Centre and the unversity buildings of the ring road.

We believe the close grained core streets of the area surrounding the  World Heritage Site and the more distant views of the World Heritage site itself need firm protection against both small scale encroachment and insertion of tall buildings into the skyline in the central area.

Sun Street retains its timeless quality.

Distant views can still be enjoyed over low rise buildings.
