SPACE BETWEEN

The core streets of the buffer zone surrounding the Cathedral precinct exhibit a classic meandering and informal medieval layout with constant changes of building form and of rhythm, incorporating larger market place spaces, while maintaining a unity through the restricted palette of materials. Street design – roadways, pavements, alleyways, also use a characteristic vocabulary of materials and spatial relationships.
It is important that this urban design code is maintained and respected in all the core areas of the city.

Butchery Lane is still today much in its traditional form
with appropriate road surface, shopfronts and signage.

Proliferation of A-boards is a constant enforcement challenge.
