SHOPFRONTS CHDF, with the Canterbury
Society and Canterbury City Council, have agreed a
Shopfront Guidelines document controlling the design of
new shopfronts and the adaptation of existing front. The
tone of the historic centre is strongly influenced by the
style of the many commercial premises particularly in the
primary shopping streets, which exhibit great skill and
variety in their composition, while exhibiting many
unifying and common characteristics, particularly
proportion, with traditional style painted fascias and
suspended projecting signs, and a common set of parts
