NEW BUILDINGS

CHDF recognises the need for renewal and expansion through new developments, but calls for the character of conservation areas and their surrounding hinterland to be preserved and enhanced, firstly by recognising the local character of the development context, through studies of detailing, scale and materiality, and secondly by adopting a high standard of design.

St Peter's Lane
This development of houses and apartments displays the highest quality materials and carefully considered detailing. A contemporary development with a traditional frontage and a design solution that is both sensitive and innovative.

Won Best New Building Project at the 2016 Canterbury Society’s Design Awards for architects Walters and Cohen and Tim Ronald Associates.

International College
The Kings School
This college for international students lies within a new campus on the edge of the historic city, which also contains a new theatre and a fencing centre, both in retrofitted buildings. The building is arranged as a traditional quadrangle around an open courtyard.

Won Best New Building Project in a Conservation Area at the 2021 Canterbury Society's Design Awards for architects Price and Myers.
